European Union of Medical Specialists, Section of Surgery meeting was performed on September 12th in Bath, United Kingdom. The chairman of Turkish Surgical Board Prof. Dr. Sadık Kılıçturgay and the chairman of Turkish Surgical Society Prof. Dr. Cem Terzi attended to the meeting to represent our country.

The Turkish Surgical Society has applied to the editor of the Journal of Surgical Laparoscopy Endoscopy & Percutaneous Techniques to negotiate reduced subscription rates for members. Associate Professor Mahir Özmen and Associate Professor Eren Berber are members of the journal editorial board. We thank them for their kind attention to this issue and gratefully acknowledge the efforts of our ex president Prof. Dr. Semih Baskan.

The preparations have begun for the 17th National Surgery Congress that is going to be held in the Congress Center of the Sheraton Hotel in Ankara on 26-29 of May.

The European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) Section of Surgery arranged its general meeting in Stavanger, Norway on 17-18 April 2009 Prof. Dr. Cem Terzi participated in the meeting as the representative of the Turkish Surgical Association (TSA). Prof. Dr. Sadık Kılıçturgay, chairman of the TSA Competence Commission, could not participate due to other obligations. Several subjects were discussed during the meeting and many useful discussions took place regarding the general surgery specialist education.
